If you are a business owner or employer, the Age Legislation affects how you recruit, how you train, how you promote and how you retire your staff.
Besides the legal standpoint, labour market and demographic statistics are showing us why promoting a more ‘age friendly’ workforce is going to be vital to your business success.
- People are living longer.
- The average age of the workforce is rising.
- The South West is the only region in England to have a greater number of residents aged 50 and older than between 16 and 24 years of age.
- Since the 1970’s there has been an increase in the number of young people extending their time in further and higher education.
- In future, a greater number of job applicants will be older people.
- Retaining your existing older staff may require greater flexibility in your employment practices.
- Employers need to take action to get and keep the best people for their business.
- a good public image
- better staff retention
- lower turnover costs
- improved productivity
- improved mentoring capacity
- competitive edge
